The reporter Maxim Tucker posted a video last night where you can hear sounds of intensive combat between Ukrainian soldiers and pro-Russian militants who attack Avdiivka village located on goverment-controlled territory of Donetsk Region.

Just on April 8 2016 OSCE observers reported huge amount of explosions that they heard near Aviivka village. See their daily report at http://www.osce.org/ukraine-smm/232316

Positioned in “DPR”-controlled Yasynuvata (16km north-east of Donetsk) during the day, the SMM heard a total of 979 undetermined explosions, over 50 bursts of heavy-machine-gun fire and more than 350 shots of small-arms fire, and two bursts of anti-aircraft-gun (ZU-23, 23mm) mostly at locations 500m-3km south-west, west and north-west of its position. Whilst in government-controlled Avdiivka (17km north of Donetsk) during the day, the SMM heard 52 explosions and 30 airbursts of 82 and 120mm mortar rounds, five explosions of 152mm artillery fire, 65 impacts of 82 and 120mm mortar rounds, eight impacts of automatic grenade launcher rounds, and intermittent small-arms fire at locations 2-10km north, north-east, east south-east and south of its position.

Also yesterday OSCE reported that observers of Special Monitoring Mission got under fire near Zaitseve village. See their report at http://www.osce.org/ukraine-smm/232326

On 9 April, an SMM patrol, comprised of five members in two armoured vehicles, was in Zhovanka, a government-controlled part of Zaitseve (50km north-east of Donetsk). The patrol was accompanied by the Ukrainian Armed Forces head of the Joint Centre for Control and Co-ordination (JCCC) office in Toretsk.

At 12:52hrs, the SMM heard an explosion assessed as caused either by an 82mm mortar or a recoilless gun round impacting at a distance of approximately 100-200m south-east of its position. Within the next two seconds, small-arms shots were fired towards the SMM position coming approximately from the same direction of the impact. The SMM heard at least three-four bullets flying one-two metres above their heads. The SMM immediately took cover behind the vehicles, and then got inside them and left the location. No SMM members were hurt or vehicles damaged. The patrol returned safely to its base in Svitlodarsk at 16:00.

The information about cease-fire violations in Lugansk Region was posted today by Lugansk Regional Administration at www.facebook.com/odalug

Yesterday on Feb 3, starting from 19:00 and for about an hour terrorists shelled Ukrainian fortifications in Tryokhizbenka near destroyed bridge, they used 82 mm mortars (about 50 shells were fired), automatic grenade launchers, high caliber machine guns and small firearms. The attack was from the direction of Krasnyi Liman (controlled by so-called Lugansk People’s Republic). There was no information about wounded or destruction.

Also at about 21:00 terrorists shelled pedestrian checkpoint in Stanytsia Luhanska using 82 mm mortars. Most of the shells exploded near the bridge in “grey zone”, but some of them landed near crossing line on Ukrainian side.

The Governor of Lugask Region George Tuka said that he was ready to close the checkpoint immediately as the life of civilians crossing the contact line there could be in danger if such shelling repeats. By after talking to military and border guards it was decided to leave the checkpoint open.

Regarding checkpoint in Stanytsia.

In my opinion if there is any possible danger from the side of terrorist the checkpoint must be closed! In the morning I made a decision to close the checkpoint. But military and border guards offered to give “one more chance” in order not create difficulties to civil population. I repeat: our defenders voted for that decision, who (in my opinion) were supposed to be the 1st ones to offer to close the checkpoint… I would already close it. But I highly respect our military, so we will be making a decision together. Always!
