Russian troops used “TOR” SAM aka SA-15 “Gauntlet” in Lugansk! The rocket exploded in the air!

Yesterday on Feb 16 2016 early in morning at 8:18 am Russian troops used “TOR” SAM aka SA-15 “Gauntlet” in Lugansk city which is controlled by militants of so-called Lugansk People’s Republic. The sound of heavy explosion was heard in the city center, West and South of Lugansk. The rocket exploded about 40 seconds later (some locals report from 1 to 2 min after first sound of explosion) in the air above dense residential area, the head of the rocket was found in the South part of Lugansk also in dense residential area. Luckily nobody got wounded and no damages reported. So far there is no information about the target (could be Ukrainian drone). Ukraine doesn’t have “TOR” missile systems since 2001. 1st time “TOR” was spotted as part of Russian military convoy moving through the territory of Lugansk Region in Krasnodon town, it was going in the direction of Russian border on September 3 2014. See report with videos about that in English here.

Local residents took several photos of the head of 9M331 missile which is used by Russian “TOR” SAM system. You can compare to high-res photo of the head of the rocket posted at Wikipedia

Here is also another photo of the remains of of 9M331 missile that was used during military excises in Russian Federation. As you can see it perfectly matches the part of the rocket found in Lugansk.

Below more photos of the head of the rocket. As you can see it landed very close to the houses. People in the military uniform are militants of so-called Lugansk People’s Republic (LPT) who arrived very fast after the incident was reported. They removed remains of the rocket before any local media got to the place. This incident was not reported by any official media that represent LPR authorities.

Shortly after the incident the video was posted. In the video you can see same area and same crater from the impact. But the head part of the rocket was already removed.

See the video below.

We talked to a witness who saw smoke trail going high in the air immediately after the loud sound of explosion. Similar smoke trail was photographed after BUK launch that shot down MH17 flight.

I woke up at 9:18 am (local time in Lugansk is same as in Moscow right now, Kiev time was 8:18). I could see Kambrod (area of Lugansk) very clear from the balcony. There was huge smoke trail somewhere behind Gorkiy Park, like something exploded. But it disappeared fast because of the wind… The rocket could be launched from Aleksandrovsk military training ground, that was the trail from the launch that I saw. The smoke trail was very high… That was the first explosion that I missed. Shortly after that the rocket exploded… and it exploded so loud that all city could hear…

Just behind the Gorkiy Park there is military training ground. So that location is perfect for the launch and matches to what witnesses reported.

Other witnesses reported the location where the rocket actually exploded in the air. That happened about 4.6 km from the rocket launch site. After explosion small debris started to fall down on the ground.

I was inside my apartment when I heard first explosion. After that I went to the window and about 25 seconds later I heard second explosion. And I saw how small black debris were falling down on the roof of the building in front of my house.

Militants immediately arrived to that location and they were collecting even smallest debris, like 5 cm in size. That process took them several hours and they left the area only after 2 pm (local Lugansk time). Residents saw some parts that could be remains of the body of the rocket and tail. One of the militants was securing the location and there was some flat piece (black color) 15 x 25 cm in size on the ground and another round piece (also black color) about 30 cm in diameter with two wires sticking out of it.

Below we marked everything on the Google Map: the launch site, location where the rocket exploded, area where debris were found and exact location where the head of the rocket landed leaving small crater in the ground.

We also marked same data in the picture below.

Map that shows "TOR" SAM launch site, explosion coordinates and head of the rocket

Map that shows “TOR” SAM launch site, explosion coordinates and head of the rocket

The maximum distance “TOR” rocket can travel is 12 km. It’s about 20 km to the nearest Ukrainian Army positions. Separatists media totally ignored the incident like nothing happened. More likely “TOR” SAM system was delivered from Russia and it was operated by Russian soldiers. That’s why authorities of so-called Lugansk People’s Republic are trying to hide the incident. Observers from OSCE Special Monitoring Mission already visited location where the head of the rocket found, but there is no report from them about that yet.

Corrupted officials were selling Ukrainian passports to pro-Russian militants for $40 each

Security Service of Ukraine stopped illegal mechanism that was used to issue passports of Ukrainian citizen to residents of the territory which is temporarily occupied by terrorists.

The procedure was organized by a representative of one of the illegal armed groups of so-called Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR). According to information available now passports were also ordered to legalize militants on Government-controlled territory.

Courier of terrorists was delivering all documents needed to issue a passport to departments of State Migration Service of Ukraine in Lugansk Region located on the territory controlled by Ukrainian authorities. Officials of one of the departments were issuing new passports illegally, they were renewing damaged or lost passports. People who were ordering passports were paying about 40 USD for each new ID.

Officers of Security Service of Ukraine detained courier first, he had about 20 passports and other documents of residents of temporary occupied territories. Later they detained the head of one of the departments of Migration Service in his office while he was getting almost 4000 UAH bribe. He got the money for 4 passports.

Russian officers of JCCC got medals from Donetsk People’s Republic for their service

Security Service of Ukraine released new evidence that proves involvement of Russian officers of Joint Centre for Control and Coordination (JCCC) in training militant’s of so-called Donetsk People’s Republics. Russian officers were going in and out of occupied territory of Donbass as members of a group that monitors cease-fire violations in the area and helps to stop fire from both sides of the conflict. Border control found books with military instructions on various subjects, DPR insignia of different pro-Russian militants units and medals given to Russian offices by DPR for their “fight against Ukrainian aggression”.

Russian officer Andrey Akimov had different patronymic name that didn’t match his ID. Captain Sergey Kutsenko was not in the lists and border guards made a decision to send both back to Russian Federation.

On February 2 2016 border guards at “Hoptivka” border control checkpoint in Kharkiv Region looked through the luggage of Russian officers and found materials that confirm that they provide support for members of terrorist organizations of DPR and LPR.

Lieutenant colonel Elizar Popov, major Sergey Trofimenko and Yuriy Frolov had original certificates issued by so-called Minister of Defense of DPR that confirmed they got medals, certificates said “Given to internationalist soldiers and commanders of Armed Forces of Donetsk People’s Republic who are rewarded for special courage, feat of arms and for support provided to Donetsk People’s Republic in a fight to stop aggression of Ukraine”. The text on the medal says “Internationalist soldier”.

Pro-Russian militants shelled checkpoint in Stanytsia Luhanska using 82 mm mortars

The situation in Lugansk Regions got much worse in the last few days. At night pro-Russian militants shelled the checkpoint which is the only way for civilians to cross the contact line. Yesterday 2685 people passed by that checkpoint on their way in and out of occupied territory. See State Border Guard Service report. Terrorists used 82 mm mortars banned by Minsk Protocol. The information about cease-fire violations in Lugansk Region was posted today by Lugansk Regional Administration at www.facebook.com/odalug

Yesterday on Feb 3, starting from 19:00 and for about an hour terrorists shelled Ukrainian fortifications in Tryokhizbenka near destroyed bridge, they used 82 mm mortars (about 50 shells were fired), automatic grenade launchers, high caliber machine guns and small firearms. The attack was from the direction of Krasnyi Liman (controlled by so-called Lugansk People’s Republic). There was no information about wounded or destruction.

Also at about 21:00 terrorists shelled pedestrian checkpoint in Stanytsia Luhanska using 82 mm mortars. Most of the shells exploded near the bridge in “grey zone”, but some of them landed near crossing line on Ukrainian side.

The Governor of Lugask Region George Tuka said that he was ready to close the checkpoint immediately as the life of civilians crossing the contact line there could be in danger if such shelling repeats. By after talking to military and border guards it was decided to leave the checkpoint open.

Regarding checkpoint in Stanytsia.

In my opinion if there is any possible danger from the side of terrorist the checkpoint must be closed! In the morning I made a decision to close the checkpoint. But military and border guards offered to give “one more chance” in order not create difficulties to civil population. I repeat: our defenders voted for that decision, who (in my opinion) were supposed to be the 1st ones to offer to close the checkpoint… I would already close it. But I highly respect our military, so we will be making a decision together. Always!

Pro-Russian militants don’t stop shelling positions of Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the last 24 hours gangs of pseudo-republics violates cease-fire 71 times in Donbass.

Near Svitlodarsk the enemy shelled our fortifications in Zaitseve using 82 mm mortars. Positions in Novhorodske and Mayorsk were attacked with the use of grenade launches, high caliber machine guns and APC.

The number of attacks increase and the area also gets bigger. At the same time terrorists are shelling areas where civilians live provoking our soldiers to return fire.

At 21:10 Kremlin mercenaries shelled “Mariinka” checkpoint of State Border Guard Service using automatic grenade launchers and APC.

According to information available, militants are planning similar provocations at other checkpoints, particularly near Artemivsk.

This shows that militants and their Kremlin masters don’t want peace for Donbass.
