Russian army officer captured on Ukrainian checkpoint near Donetsk with a truck full of ammo.

Yesterday night at 10 pm State Border Guard Service of Ukraine stopped “KAMAZ” truck full of ammunition at checkpoint “Berezove”. Inside the truck there was Russian army officer in a rank of a major and another terrorists of so-called Donetsk People’s Republic.

Ukrainian Border Guard Service also posted a video of the truck with ammo and the Russian soldier who was driving the truck. The video is available on their YouTube channel. In the video Russian officer says that he was stationed in Donetsk since March 5, 2015 and he was taking the ammo to the camps located in Yasne. At the last terrorists checkpoint he was given direction to go straight, but never went on this route before and didn’t realize that he actually needed to take a turn.

Below is the full transcript of the conversation between the Ukrainian solder and the captured Russian POW.

Ukrainian soldier: Where were you brought to?

Russian soldier: We were brought to the Army Corps.

Ukrainian soldier: Where is that Army Corps?

Russian soldier: I don’t know the address…

Ukrainian soldier: City?

Russian soldier: Donetsk.

Ukrainian soldier: Donetsk. How do you know that was the Army Corps? Somebody told you that?

Russian soldier: Yes.

Ukrainian soldier: Who?

Russian soldier: The senior. When I reported on my arrival. We were taken inside the building quickly, we were taken on the 3rd or 4th floor to the conference room with all our stuff. They told us not to leave the building. Nobody was given us any instructions or anything like that. Later representatives were just coming, from military units… Fictitious names…

Ukrainian soldier: Fictitious?

Russian soldier: Yes.

Ukrainian soldier: So when you were coming from the Russian territory, each of you already had his own fictitious name?

Russian soldier: Yes.

Ukrainian soldier: OK, tell me the name.

Russian soldier: Mine?

Ukrainian soldier: Yes, fictitious.

Russian soldier: Ovsyannikov.

Ukrainian soldier: Ovsyannikov… What position you took in the brigade?

Russian soldier: I got in the brigade on a position of the head of R.A.W. supply service. (R.A.W. is abbreviation of Rocket and Artillery Weapon – in Russian it is “Р.А.В.”)

Ukrainian soldier: Of the brigade?

Russian soldier: Yes.

Ukrainian soldier: 5th brigade?

Russian soldier: Yes.

Ukrainian soldier: How long have you been in Donetsk?

Russian soldier: Since March 5.

Ukrainian soldier: Until what day?

Russian soldier: Until today.

Ukrainian soldier: So today you were driving from Donetsk?

Russian soldier: Yes.

Ukrainian soldier: And where were you driving to?

Russian soldier: To Yasnoye.

Ukrainian soldier: Where?

Russian soldier: Yasnoye.

Ukrainian soldier: Who gave you the task?

Russian soldier: The commander of the brigade.

Ukrainian soldier: Have you been driving there before?

Russian soldier: No. So I didn’t know the way. On the last checkpoint I was told to go straight. There will be…

Ukrainian soldier: When did he give you the last task?

Russian soldier: Yesterday I was on the meeting

Ukrainian soldier: Personally with him?

Russian soldier: Yes, sure, and today in the morning on a briefing he told me not to forget that we were going tomorrow to the camps in Yastnoye. He asked me what I was supposed to do. I told him my task was to take ammo there and he told me “do it”.

The truck that belongs to illegal armed groups arrived to Ukrainian checkpoint from the direction of Olenivka village located on the territory of Donetsk Region which is under control of Donetsk People’s Republic. There were 2 men in military uniform without any insignia. In order to stop the vehicle border guards shot in the air few times and called for support.

This is already a year since your city was liberated. There are no shells flying on the city and no mines exploding. I believe that there will be more people like you are, who got together for celebration, and there will be less people who dance with “george ribbon” (separatists). We have no right to forget those who gave their lives for the peace in this city. I will be honest with you, I am confused that those who tore Ukrainian flags and who forced people to step on them, still walk around our cities unpunished. I promised to you that they will be punished.

Stanytsia Luhanska continues to be the most dangerous place in Lugansk Region. In the nearest future I plan to go there personally to check the destruction caused by shelling in the last few weeks. I am sure those people who shell the city has no conscience and no honor, they are just cowards.

Ukraine shot down 2 million worth Russian drone “Zastava” aka Israel Bird Eye 400 UAV

Ukrainian border guards shot down Russian drone “Zastava”. It was collecting information about positions of Ukrainian Army 1.5 km deep inside Ukraine territory in Lugansk Region about 25 km from the contact line with so-called Lugansk People’s Republic. This drone is actually Bird Eye 400 UAV manufactured in Russia after the contract was signed in 2012 with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). This drone costs 2 million USD.

Ukrainian Border Guard Service posted photos of the Russian drone at their website here dpsu.gov.ua and they also posted video on their YouTube channel.

The drone was spotted between Harasymivka village (Ukraine) and Ushakovka village (Russian Federation)

On May 21, 2015, Russia lost another UAV deep inside Ukrainian territory, also manufactured according to a contract with Israel company. Read details at Ukrainian Army shot down Russian UAV FORPOST that costs 6 million USD

Technical details on this drone available here Bird Eye 400

IAI’s Malat Division Bird Eye 400 is a mini-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) member of the Bird Eye family of mini and micro UAV systems designed for tactical reconnaissance. One Bird Eye 400 system is packaged into two carries and can be assembled within several minutes. It features low acoustic signature and 80 minutes of flight endurance.
Bird Eye 400 can be operated by one or two soldiers in support of small military fighting units. The operator establishes the flight path before the launch of the UAV system on a computer. Once launched, the Bird Eye 400 operates autonomously using a digital map and pre-programmed flight coordinates control. This kind of UAV are electrically powered by a battery.

Those Israel drones like “Zastava” and “Forpost” are manufactured by Russian company JSC “Ural Works of Civil Aviation” uwca.ru. In the photo posted by State Border Guard Service of Ukraine you can clearly see the logo and the name of Russian company and the serial number of the drone 355. There is also the name of UAV “Zastava” on the plate.

Pro-Russian terrorists in Donetsk shelled residential building by a tank. Video.

Yesterday local resident of Donetsk city posted a video recorded in the morning of July 21, 2015 from his apartment. Pro-Russian terrorists fired from a tank from their position near Donetsk Airport in the direction of dense residential area of Donetsk. What you see in the video is armor-piercing tank shell with tracer.

The operator is located at these coordinates 48.038277, 37.749260, that’s Kuibysheva St, 238. He is watching North direction. The shell hit apartment on the 7th floor on Kuibysheva St, 169, at these coordinates 48.027942, 37.753100.

On the video the tank shell with a tracer can be seen at 1:39. It flies with a speed faster than a speed of sound as there is a little delay between visual and audio.

When the shell hit the building it went through 2 walls and stuck in a bathroom of one of the apartments, 1 girl was wounded when a mirror broke in her apartment. You can see the damage in the video posted by Russian propaganda TV channel LifeNews. Sure they blame Ukrainian Army for this incident, but at the same time they confirm the type of the shell.

Damage from a tank shell that hit the residential building in Donetsk

Damage from a tank shell that hit the residential building in Donetsk

Because we know coordinates where the shell was recorded and the coordinates where it hit the building, it is possible to determine the direction where it came from. We also know technical characteristics of armor-piercing tank shell with tracer. The initial speed of this type of shell is 1800 meters per second, the tracer burning time is 2-3 seconds. In the video we can see the shell because the tracer is still burning. So it is easy to calculate that the maximum distance where it came from is 5400 meters. If you draw straight line in the direction where the shell came from you will see Donetsk Airport. Donetsk Airport is under control of pro-Russian terrorists of so-called Donetsk People’s Republic. Terrorists use it as their base now and constantly shelling Ukrainian Army positions from there. At the beginning of the video you can hear sounds of artillery fire in a distance. After shelling at Ukrainian Army positions terrorists opened fire in the direction of Donetsk residential area to imitate the response from Ukrainian forces.

Tank attack on residential area of Donetsk from terrorists position

Tank attack on residential area of Donetsk from terrorists position

From Donetsk Airport it is about 2500 m to Ukrainian positions at Opytne. This distance is perfect for tanks attacks.Such type of attacks never stop despite Minsk cease-fire agreements. See the locations and shell trajectory marked on Google Map.

IMPORTANT UPDATE! Today special monitoring mission of OSCE posted their daily report. In that report they confirm that the damage was caused by an armor-piercing tank shell. They also think that the shell was fired from NNE direction. In our analysis we came to conclusion that it came from NNW. Since OSCE observers were actually there on the ground to check all details, they may have more accurate data.

The SMM saw damage to three apartments at Kuibysheva Street in “DPR”-controlled Donetsk city consistent with arrow-type anti-armoured tank ammunition. The shell struck the north-facing external wall of one apartment and passed through three internal walls. The SMM assessed the tank shell to have been fired from a north-north-easterly direction. According to residents the incident happened during the early hours of 21 July, and caused no injuries. Residents told the SMM the shell had not exploded and was removed by “DPR” members.

– SMM OSCE daily report based on information received as of 19:30 (Kyiv time), 21 July 2015

You can see full text of OSCE report here

Direction where the shell came from according to OSCE

Direction where the shell came from according to OSCE

If NNE direction is correct in 3800 meters from the impact there is Zlitna St, 11А residential house at these coordinates 48.062064, 37.759793 That is well known building. Pro-Russian terrorists used it as a base attacking Donetsk Airport. It was a good shield for them to hide tanks behind it. Going further along direction line there is Spartak, area of Donetsk also controlled by so-called Donetsk People’s Republic.

The day before the incident on July 20 pro-Russian terrorists were celebrating birthday of well know terrorists “Givi”. The video from that location was posted by Graham Phillips on his YouTube channel. You can see it here.

In this video you can see the tank just next to this residential building.

Russian tank next to residential building in Donetsk on Zlitna St 11а

For sure terrorists opened fire from a tank at residential area of Donetsk from the territory that they control. And it is more likely that they used the tank that was recorded just few hours before the incident.
